Xylia Pen Blank

A remarkable pen blank crafted from Xylia (Xylia xylocarpa), also known as Pyinkado or Indian Ironwood — one of the hardest and most durable timbers from South and Southeast Asia. Long prized for its exceptional strength and density, Xylia produces pens with a premium weight and a rich, warm character.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Warm reddish-brown to deep red, often with darker streaking and a natural lustre
• Grain: Interlocked to wavy with a moderately coarse texture — often producing an attractive ribbon figure
• Hardness: Extremely hard and very dense — outstanding durability and a luxurious, substantial feel
• Finish: Polishes to a rich, warm lustre; the interlocked grain adds depth and character under a finish
• Workability: Turns well with very sharp tools; the extreme density rewards patience and steady cuts
