Panga panga Hardwood Planks

Pangapanga (Millettia stuhlmannii), also known as Wenge's close cousin, is a striking East African hardwood with deep dark brown to near-black tones and a bold, coarse grain. Native to Mozambique and Tanzania, Pangapanga shares many of Wenge's dramatic visual qualities while offering excellent hardness and durability for high-end woodworking.

Key Characteristics

  • Colour: Dark chocolate brown to near-black with lighter brown streaks
  • Grain: Straight with a very coarse, open texture and distinctive pore structure
  • Hardness: Very hard and dense — outstanding durability
  • Workability: Moderate — sharp tools required; splinters can be sharp so care is advised

Common Uses

  • Contemporary furniture and cabinetry
  • Flooring and decorative panelling
  • Architectural joinery and feature walls
  • Turned objects and decorative accents
