Collection: Redheart Planks

Redheart (Simira salvadorensis), also known as Chakte Kok, is one of nature's most vivid timbers — a Central American hardwood that arrives in the workshop a striking, almost arterial red that simply has to be seen to be believed. It is one of the few truly red woods available to craftsmen, and freshly worked it is genuinely breathtaking. Over time it mellows to a rich reddish-brown, but even aged it retains a warmth and depth of colour that few other species can match.

Beyond its extraordinary colour, Redheart / Chakte Kok is a pleasure to work — moderately hard with a fine, even grain that machines cleanly, takes a smooth finish, and responds well to both hand and power tools. It is an ideal choice for any project where colour is the statement.

Why Choose Redheart?

  • Exceptional colour — one of the most vividly red timbers available, freshly worked or finished
  • Also known as Chakte Kok — the same species, two names
  • Fine, even grain — machines and finishes cleanly to a smooth, attractive surface
  • Moderately hard — workable and forgiving without sacrificing durability
  • Versatile — ideal for furniture accents, decorative panels, inlay, turning, and small decorative objects
  • A genuine showstopper — the colour alone makes finished pieces truly unforgettable
