Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)
Tulip Poplar — also known as American Tulipwood or Yellow Poplar — is one of North America's most widely used and versatile hardwoods. Despite its common name, it is not a true poplar but a member of the magnolia family, and it is considerably harder and more stable than most poplars. Its pale cream to greenish-yellow heartwood, often with distinctive grey, green, or purple streaking, gives it a unique and attractive appearance that takes paint, stain, and clear finishes equally well.
It is a pleasure to work with — light, stable, and easy to machine — making it a favourite for furniture carcasses, painted cabinetry, carving, and utility woodwork where a clean, consistent, lightweight timber is required.
