Tamboti Pen Blank

A wonderfully aromatic and visually striking pen blank crafted from Tamboti (Spirostachys africana), a rare and highly prized southern African hardwood. Tamboti is renowned among pen turners for its rich dark colouring, beautiful grain patterns, and distinctive natural fragrance — often compared to sandalwood — making it a truly special timber to work with.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Rich golden-brown to dark reddish-brown with darker contrasting streaks and attractive figuring
• Grain: Fine and straight to slightly interlocked with a smooth texture and natural sheen
• Hardness: Hard and dense — excellent durability and a quality feel in the hand
• Finish: Polishes to a superb natural lustre; the warm tones and figuring are beautifully enhanced under a finish
• Workability: Turns very well with sharp tools; note that Tamboti sap can cause skin irritation — gloves and dust precautions recommended
