Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata)

Spanish Cedar is a classic timber with a long and distinguished history — prized for centuries in fine furniture, cigar boxes, and musical instruments for its warm, aromatic character and excellent working properties. Despite its name, it is not a true cedar but a tropical hardwood from Central and South America, and it is the distinctive sweet, resinous scent that gives it away the moment you start working it.

It is a relatively lightweight timber for its size, with a straight to interlocked grain and a fine, even texture that planes and finishes beautifully. The warm pinkish-red to reddish-brown colour deepens attractively with age and exposure to light.
