Sipo Mahogany (Entandrophragma utile)
Sipo Mahogany — also known as Utile — is one of the finest and most sought-after of the African mahogany family. Its rich reddish-brown heartwood, often with an attractive interlocked grain producing a subtle ribbon figure, has a warmth and elegance that makes it a premium choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, and joinery. Closely related to Sapele, Sipo is generally considered easier to work due to its less pronounced interlocked grain, while retaining all the visual richness and character of the mahogany family.
It works beautifully with both hand and machine tools, finishes to a smooth, lustrous surface, and takes oils and lacquers with excellent results. A genuinely premium African hardwood for any project where quality and character are paramount.
