Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum)
Sapele is a beautifully figured African hardwood and one of the most popular mahogany-family timbers in the world. Its rich reddish-brown to deep copper tones are complemented by a distinctive interlocked grain that produces a striking ribbon or rope figure when quartersawn — a hallmark of the species. It is a timber of real elegance and presence, equally at home in fine furniture, musical instruments, and decorative joinery.
Sapele works well with both hand and machine tools, finishes to a smooth, lustrous surface, and takes oils and lacquers with excellent results. A premium choice for any project where warmth, figure, and quality are paramount.
