Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum)
Sapele is one of West Africa’s most popular and widely used hardwoods — a timber of real character and distinction. Its rich, warm reddish-brown to deep mahogany tones are complemented by a pronounced interlocked grain that produces a striking ribbon figure when quartersawn, and a lively, lustrous surface on flat-sawn material. Strong, stable and an excellent all-rounder, Sapele is a favourite of furniture makers, cabinet makers and joiners who want a timber with genuine visual presence and reliable working properties.
It works well with both hand and machine tools, takes a superb finish under oil, wax or lacquer, and its natural figure means that even straightforward projects have an elevated, premium appearance.
