Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.)

Purpleheart is one of the most distinctive and recognisable hardwoods in the world — a dense, strong timber from Central and South America that is immediately identifiable by its extraordinary violet-purple heartwood. Freshly machined surfaces display a vivid, saturated purple that deepens and mellows to a rich brown-purple with age and light exposure, making it a timber that genuinely evolves over time. It is exceptionally hard and durable, with excellent strength properties that make it as practical as it is beautiful.

It works well with sharp hand and machine tools, takes a superb natural finish, and its density gives it outstanding stability and longevity in use.
