Purpleheart Bowl Blank

Purpleheart is one of the most visually dramatic hardwoods available to woodturners — freshly cut, it reveals a vivid, intense purple colour that deepens and matures to a rich reddish-brown with age and light exposure. Dense, strong, and with a fine to medium grain, it turns to a beautifully smooth surface and produces finished pieces that genuinely stop people in their tracks. A truly special timber for statement turned work.

• Species: Purpleheart (Peltogyne spp.)
• Origin: Central and South America
• Colour: Vivid purple when freshly cut, deepening to rich reddish-brown with age and light
• Grain: Fine to medium, generally straight — controlled cuts recommended due to density
• Working properties: Turns very well with sharp tools, sands to a smooth finish, takes oils and waxes beautifully
