Panga Panga Pen Blank

A striking pen blank crafted from Panga Panga (Millettia stuhlmannii), an East African hardwood closely related to Wenge and sharing many of its dramatic visual qualities. Panga Panga is prized by pen turners for its bold dark colouring, distinctive pale streaking, and excellent durability — producing pens with a strong, contemporary character.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Dark chocolate-brown to near-black with fine pale yellowish-white streaks — similar to Wenge but often with a slightly warmer, more reddish tone
• Grain: Straight with a coarse, open texture and bold linear figuring
• Hardness: Very hard and dense — excellent durability and a substantial feel in the hand
• Finish: Takes a good finish; the bold grain pattern creates a dramatic visual effect under oil or lacquer
• Workability: Turns well with sharp tools; the coarse grain benefits from careful sanding — dust precautions recommended
