Osage Orange Pen Blank

A vibrant and characterful pen blank crafted from Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera), also known as Hedge Apple or Bodark. Native to North America, Osage Orange is one of the most distinctive timbers available to pen turners, boasting a vivid golden-yellow colour that deepens to a rich amber-orange with age and light exposure.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Bright golden-yellow when freshly turned, deepening to a warm amber-orange over time
• Grain: Fine and straight to slightly interlocked with a smooth, even texture
• Hardness: Extremely hard and dense — one of the hardest North American timbers
• Finish: Polishes to a superb natural lustre; the colour transformation with age adds lasting appeal
• Workability: Turns very well with sharp tools; the density rewards careful, steady cuts
