Mutumi (Bridelia micrantha), also known as Mitzeerie or Coastal Redmilkwood, is a southern and East African hardwood that is well regarded among turners for its pleasant working properties and attractive appearance. Warm golden-brown to light reddish-brown with a fine, even grain, it turns cleanly on the lathe and finishes to a smooth, attractive surface — a reliable and rewarding timber that produces consistently pleasing results.
Mutumi is not a timber you'll find in every workshop, which makes it a genuinely interesting addition to any turning collection. Its approachable character and warm tones make it equally suited to beginners looking for a forgiving exotic species and experienced turners wanting something a little different on the lathe.
