Masasa Bowl Blank

Masasa is a beautiful Southern African hardwood with warm reddish-brown to medium brown tones and an attractive, even grain that gives finished pieces a natural elegance. A lesser-known timber that deserves far more attention from woodturners, it works with a pleasing consistency on the lathe and rewards careful turning with a smooth, rich finish. Each blank carries its own subtle character — a genuinely lovely wood to discover and work with.

• Species: Masasa (Brachystegia spiciformis)
• Origin: Southern / East Africa
• Colour: Warm reddish-brown to medium brown with subtle natural variation
• Grain: Even, generally straight to slightly interlocked
• Working properties: Turns well with sharp tools, sands nicely, takes oil and wax finishes well
