Native to southern Africa, Leadwood lives up to its name with an extraordinary density that gives finished pens a remarkable, premium weight and feel — a truly impressive timber for discerning pen turners.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Pale grey-brown to warm yellowish-brown, often with subtle darker streaking
• Grain: Fine and straight to slightly interlocked with a smooth, even texture
• Hardness: Exceptionally hard and very dense — among the heaviest timbers available
• Finish: Polishes to a superb natural lustre; the fine grain produces a beautifully smooth surface
• Workability: Turns well with very sharp tools; the extreme density requires patience and steady cuts
