Kiaat Bowl Blank

Kiaat is a beautiful African hardwood prized by woodturners for its warm, rich tones and wonderfully workable nature. With a golden to reddish-brown heartwood and subtle interlocked grain, it turns smoothly on the lathe and takes a superb finish — rewarding both the experienced turner and the enthusiastic beginner.

Each blank is cut square and waxed on the ends to minimise moisture loss and reduce the risk of checking during storage, so it arrives in the best possible condition and ready for the lathe.

Wood Characteristics

• Species: Kiaat (Pterocarpus angolensis)
• Origin: Southern Africa
• Colour: Warm golden to reddish-brown with subtle figuring
• Grain: Interlocked, medium to coarse texture
• Working properties: Turns well, sands and finishes beautifully
