A warm, characterful pen blank crafted from Iroko (Milicia excelsa), a robust West African hardwood often described as a substitute for Teak, prized for its rich golden-brown tones, interlocked grain and excellent durability. Iroko produces pens with a bold, natural character and a satisfying weight in the hand.
Wood Characteristics
- Colour: Warm golden-yellow to medium brown, often with darker streaks and an attractive interlocked grain pattern
- Grain: Interlocked and sometimes irregular, with a coarse but even texture and a natural lustre
- Hardness: Moderately hard — durable and robust with a comfortable feel in the hand
- Finish: Sands and polishes to a smooth, warm surface — responds well to oils and friction polishes
- Workability: Turns well with sharp tools — interlocked grain can cause slight tearout so sharp edges are recommended
Supplied
