A rare and exquisite pen blank crafted from Holly (Ilex aquifolium), Britain's whitest native hardwood and one of the most prized and sought-after timbers for fine turning and inlay work. Holly is celebrated for its extraordinary ivory-white colouring, exceptionally fine grain, and superb finishing qualities — producing pens of remarkable purity and elegance that are truly unlike any other.
Wood Characteristics
- Colour: Brilliant ivory-white to creamy white — the whitest of all native British timbers; colour can develop a subtle warm or greyish tone with age if not finished promptly after cutting
- Grain: Very fine and even with a smooth, almost featureless texture — the exceptional uniformity of grain is one of Holly's most distinctive qualities
- Hardness: Hard and dense — excellent durability and a solid, quality feel in the hand
- Finish: Polishes to an outstanding, silky smooth surface — one of the finest finishing native timbers available; takes dyes and stains with exceptional evenness
- Workability: Turns superbly with sharp tools — a deeply rewarding timber to work with, particularly when a flawless white surface is the goal
