European Beech (Fagus sylvatica)

European Beech is one of Britain and Europe's most abundant and well-regarded hardwoods — a clean, pale, fine-grained timber that has been a staple of furniture makers, turners, and craftspeople for centuries. Its even, consistent texture and reliable working properties make it an excellent all-rounder, equally at home in the workshop as it is in the finished piece. Pale cream to light pinkish-brown in colour, with a fine, straight grain and characteristic small ray flecks, Beech has a quiet, understated beauty that suits both traditional and contemporary work.

It machines and turns exceptionally well, takes stain and paint readily, and steam-bends beautifully — making it one of the most versatile timbers available to the maker.

This pack contains 5 kiln dried sawn planks of European Beech, supplied totally unprocessed as sawn stock — straight from the saw, with no further machining. Ideal for makers who prefer to dimension their own timber. Approximately 1" (25mm) sawn thickness throughout.

Please note: This timber is graded CND (Colour No Defect) — meaning it is not selected or graded for colour consistency. Planks may include natural colour streaks, steaky heartwood, or variation in tone that is characteristic of ungraded Beech. Structurally sound and perfectly usable — just not colour-sorted.
