Masur Birch is one of Scandinavia’s most treasured figured timbers. Formed by a unique combination of genetic mutation and insect activity within the Birch tree, it produces an extraordinary pattern of dark eyes and swirling figure set against a pale cream to golden background. The curly figure adds a rippling, three-dimensional quality that shimmers as the light catches it — making each finished bottle stopper a genuine conversation piece.

Pre-cut to bottle stopper blank size and ready for the lathe — simply mount, turn, and finish.

Wood Characteristics

• Species: Masur Birch (Betula pendula var. carelica)
• Origin: Scandinavia
• Colour: Pale cream to warm golden with dark contrasting eyes and swirling figure
• Grain: Highly figured — characteristic Masur eyes combined with curly ripple figure
• Finish: Polishes to a beautiful lustre; the figure truly comes alive under oil or lacquer
