Chechen / Caribbean Rosewood (Metopium brownei)
Chechen — also known as Caribbean Rosewood — is one of the most visually dramatic hardwoods available, prized for its extraordinary range of colour and figure. A single board can display rich reds, deep browns, creamy whites and near-blacks, often with striking contrasting grain patterns that make every piece completely unique. Native to the Caribbean and Central America, it is a dense, hard and very durable timber that works beautifully and finishes to a superb lustre.
It takes a superb natural finish under oil, wax or lacquer, and its density gives it excellent stability and longevity in use. A genuinely spectacular timber that never fails to draw attention.
