Chacate Preto Bowl Blank

Chacate Preto (Guibourtia conjugata) is a prized Mozambican hardwood closely related to African Blackwood, and one of the most striking species you can put on the lathe. Deep reddish-brown to near-black with dramatic darker streaking, each blank has real presence — and when turned and finished, the results are outstanding.

Very hard and dense, Chacate Preto turns superbly with sharp tools and polishes to an almost glass-like lustre. Its fine, dense grain rewards careful, steady cuts and finishes to a level of elegance that few other timbers can match.
