Bolivian Rosewood (Machaerium scleroxylon)
Bolivian Rosewood — also known as Pau Ferro or Santos Rosewood — is a stunning South American hardwood that rivals true rosewoods in both beauty and performance. The rich chocolate-brown to reddish-brown base is laced with darker streaks and an irregular figure that gives each piece a distinctive, almost musical quality — it is no coincidence that it is widely used as a fingerboard timber on high-end guitars and basses.
Dense, hard, and stable, it works and finishes exceptionally well, producing a smooth, lustrous surface that needs little more than a light oil to look spectacular. An excellent choice for furniture, turning, musical instruments, and any decorative work where a premium rosewood-like appearance is desired.
