Similar in character to its European cousin but with its own distinct personality, American White Oak produces pens with a clean, classic appeal.

Wood Characteristics

• Colour: Warm light to medium brown with a subtle greyish or olive tone — generally more uniform and slightly lighter than European Oak
• Grain: Straight to slightly wavy with a coarse, open texture — featuring prominent medullary rays (silver grain) that are particularly striking on quartersawn faces
• Hardness: Hard and dense — excellent durability and a solid, quality feel in the hand
• Finish: Polishes to a warm, attractive lustre; the open grain and ray figure are beautifully highlighted under a finish
• Workability: Turns well with sharp tools — a satisfying and reliable timber to work with
