American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)

American Black Walnut is one of the most prized hardwoods in the world — a rich, dark timber with a character and warmth that few species can match. Its deep chocolate-brown heartwood, often with purple and grey tones, is complemented by a straight to slightly wavy grain that finishes to a beautifully smooth, lustrous surface. A timber of genuine prestige, equally at home in fine furniture, gunstocks, musical instruments, and decorative work.

Walnut works exceptionally well with both hand and machine tools, glues well, and takes oils and finishes with outstanding results. One of the great all-round hardwoods — and a species that only improves with age.
